Hey all,
i'm bursting with excitement just now, have been since monday but its particularly bad now as i've just read some articles on guidedogs, i'm getting one at last and i so absolutely cant wait!
an instructor from Irish guidedogs came to my house the other day, he talked to my parents and then we did a short handle walk, then after a discussion with my parents they've said they'll support me and i'm going for my first guide! I've never seen but i'm just in awe of the whole thing right now, i've walked with dogs twice now so know what it feels like!
I know there will be days which are fabulous and days which are not so much, and of course problems along the way, but i'm ready for all of it and am absolutely 150 percent committed to making this partnership work!
Any advice or just thoughts would be most welcome, particularly someone who is or was as excited as i am on getting their first guide would be welcome, and i'm particularly interested to talk to people like myself who've never seen!
I look forward to reading thoughts advice or just random doggy musings soon i hope!!
Smiles,

That's awesome, congratulations!!
Congratulations.

I have a seeing eye dog from the seeing eye school in New Jersey here in the states. He's my first. I wish I had got him years ago! Keep up on the training they give you and give your little boy or girl lots of love and attention. Update us on how things go.
Congratulations! I got my first guide about a year ago. I was very excited too. Getting a guide was the best decision I ever made. Good luck with your training and I hope that you and your new partner have a happy and successful time together.
Way to go!
I'm very happy for you. I'm on my second dog, and he's wonderful. Best of luck to you, Kim and Voyager from California.

Jenna and... well I'll let ya know tomorrow!
Hey, congrats!!!!! I'm living in New York city, and am thinking about getting a guide dog too. I've also been blind all my life, and have used a cane since I was little. I know a guide dog is a huge change, and for a long time, I was hesatant about getting one. I had a trust issue with them. I've never walked with a guide dog, but recently I had a change of heart. I haven't even started the application process, but am seriously thinking about it.
